Islanders playoff Game 1 vs. Carolina analysis:
The New York Islanders played Game 1 vs. the Carolina Hurricanes last night, losing by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately the penalty taken by Ryan Pulock that led to the Canes 2nd power play goal ended up being the game winner. The issue with that penalty is that there is no world that what Pulock did is considered a penalty, it was an incredible defensive play. The Islanders struggled to score but that is nothing new for Isles fans. The Islanders power-play was absolutely brutal and hard to watch. The Hurricanes scoring twice on the power-play was the downfall for this team, their PK has to be better and not leave any man open. The Hurricanes first PPG was due to leaving their star, Sebastian Aho completely open.
Sorokin was absolutely incredible as usual. He kept the Islanders in this game and if they had completed the comeback, credit would be due to Ilya between the pipes. Ryan Pulock played an incredible defensive game and scored the Islanders only goal.
My Key Points:
- Offense needs to step it up, get more shots on goal
- Power-play has to be better
- Stay disciplined because the refs are calling EVERYTHING
- Have Sorokin’s back because he's putting on a show
- Better communication on the ice
Game 2 will be Wednesday, April 19th at PNC Arena at 7pm.
A must-win game, an opportunity to go back home to Long Island with a series tied at 1.
