Ilya Sorokin blanks the Buffalo Sabres and gets the Islanders a shutout 3-0 victory! The Islanders extend their point streak to 9 games as Ilya Sorokin picks up his 1st NHL win and first NHL shutout. Ilya Sorokin was a 3rd round draft pick nearly 7 years ago back in 2014. Absolutely incredible to see the Islanders showing up for Sorokin at last. Similar to last night's Islanders-Sabres game Islanders captain Anders Lee as well as star J.G. Pageau continue to show their dominance.
"He was outstanding, unbelievable, the athleticism... he made some huge saves" -Barry Trotz on Ilya Sorokin
With all of the incredible accomplishments tonight, unfortunately Mat Barzal did not record a point in tonight’s game and with that his 9 game point streak came to an end. Many bright spots in tonight's game. With this win and the 2 points that go along with it, the Islanders now sit 2nd in the MassMutual East division, only behind the Boston Bruins. "Video Review" -Ilya Sorokin on what he would remember most from this game
One not so bright spot is that Adam Pelech has 7 minor penalties this season, 5 of those being in the last 5 games. Adam Pelech had 2 minor penalties tonight vs. Buffalo and one of those almost cost Sorokin the shutout. On the Sabres 2nd power play of the game, Victor Olofsson snuck one behind Sorokin but it was taken back after video review proved that it was off-sides. Not what you like to see from the Islanders star shut-down defenseman. The Islanders will travel to face Pittsburgh on Thursday to go for a 10 game point streak!
