Game Summary:
In the first game back with fans in the building the Islanders fall to the Flyers 4-3. With an okay first period and an awful second and real good third, the Flyers give the Islanders their first regulation loss at home this season. The Islanders were not on their game tonight in the first two periods. In the third, the Islanders score three straight to tie the game, and then with 2:22 to go, let one up. Heartbreaking loss.
Period by Period Analysis:
1st Period Breakdown-
With the fans screaming in the stands, the Islanders were pumped and had a lot of momentum that gave the Islanders many chances but could not capitalize. Later on in the period, Mat Barzal took a double minor penalty which the Islanders killed. The Islanders were outshot 9-8.
2nd Period Breakdown-
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. The Islanders played one of their worst periods of hockey and let up 3 goals. None on the powerplay. The Islanders were outshot 12-5. The Islanders can’t get anything going.
3rd Period Breakdown-
The Islanders score three straight goals in the third period to tie up the game but then with 2:22 left to go, the Flyers take the 4-3 lead. Heartbreaking in the third period.
"It's nice. You don't realize how much you miss it until you
have it back." -Cal Clutterbuck on Isles fans being back in the building
Looking Ahead:
The Islanders will battle the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night with puck drop set for 7:00 pm EST on MSG+. Ilya Sorokin should get the start in net for the Islanders Saturday night. Expect more lineup changes to come. Bellows played decent tonight but not as well as he has been although he should remain in the lineup on that first line filling in for Anders Lee. Sebastian Aho was also was so solid filling in for Dobson who is on the COVID-19 list so expect him to stay in the lineup. We could see Komarov, Dal Colle, or Czarnik playing wing on the third line. Most likely Dal Colle since he played well tonight.
